Maribor urban green space development

Overview

The Municipality of Maribor has initiated several urban green space development projects. In late August 2026, the municipality announced a renovation of the City Park, specifically targeting the ‘Old Park’ area and its ponds. This initial phase, estimated at over 2 million euros, involves extensive planting of trees and shrubs, arboristic treatments, and infrastructure upgrades such as replacing asphalt with water-permeable sand paths.

Following this, the municipality began construction on a separate 3.2 million euro project to develop a new park along the Pekrski stream. This 2.6-hectare development includes an 800-meter stretch featuring cycling paths, walking paths, a pump track, and playgrounds. Environmental efforts for this site include the planting of approximately 240 new trees and the relocation of 50 existing trees.
