Maribor residents protest urban planning and tree removal

Residents and civil initiatives in Maribor are protesting municipal urban planning decisions regarding infrastructure and greenery.

The municipality has stated that the public tender process for the renovation is nearing its deadline.

Separately, a civil initiative has organized a meeting to protest the removal of seven wild chestnut trees on Trubarjeva Street. The group is demanding more professional and transparent management of urban greenery, noting that the loss of mature trees impacts shade, air quality, and local temperatures. The initiative seeks systemic protection for city trees and greater public involvement in decisions affecting the urban ecosystem.
