Maribor residents protest urban renovation and parking cuts

Residents and users in Maribor are expressing significant concern regarding the planned renovation of Gregorčičeva Street, General Maister Square, Tyrševa Street, and parts of Hero Stane Street. The primary source of tension is the reduction of available parking spaces as part of the urban redesign.

Local residents and business owners have received a notice from the Municipality of Maribor, signed by Mayor Saša Arsenovič, stating that the municipality will proceed with the renovation and issue a public tender. Critics, including local residents and former city councilor Karin Jurše, are calling for more direct involvement in the decision-making process rather than simply being informed of predetermined changes. They argue that adequate parking alternatives must be secured before existing spaces are removed.
