Maricá celebrates 212th anniversary with large free concerts and cultural showcase

The municipality of Maricá, Brazil, marked its 212th anniversary with a series of free outdoor concerts at the Arena da Barra. The program featured performances by Marianna Cunha, singer Fafá de Belém – celebrating 50 years of her career – pagode star Ferrugem, the group Samba da Mulher, and pop artist Ludmilla, among others. Thousands of attendees braved rain to enjoy a mix of samba, pagode, trap and funk.

During her set, Ludmilla highlighted the city’s social initiatives, including the Passaporte Universitário university scholarship program, the local social‑currency “Mumbuca,” and free public transport for schoolchildren. The celebration schedule continued with shows by Thunder Rock and the band Os Paralamas do Sucesso, completing a multi‑day cultural festival.

The event drew residents from neighboring towns, underscoring Maricá’s emphasis on diverse musical programming to reach all age groups.
