Brazil festivals, fairs & tourism projects (June‑July 2026)
Entities: Sistema FAEP · Carolina Trombini · Biopark · Queijo Brasil · Rosane Wirzius Borosky
Overview
From mid‑April through early July 2026 Brazil’s towns sustained a steady rhythm of local festivals, fairs and heritage initiatives. Maricá reopened the Casa Darcy Ribeiro Museum on 4 July with free programming that previewed the 2027 Carnival samba‑enredo, while nearby Três Coroas relaunched its Armindo Lauffer Museum and debuted an AI‑driven tourism‑guide app. The 26th Expo Itaguaí (1‑5 July) blended traditional livestock shows with a cultural programme that included rodeo, agro‑space, craft markets, amusement rides and three themed arenas (Cultural, Itageek, Sports). National music acts such as Maiara & Maraisa, Zé Felipe, Leonardo and Alê Ferraz performed to large audiences. Cheese‑related events highlighted Brazil’s dairy heritage: Professor Neila Richards judged the ExpoQueijo Brazil – Araxá (25‑28 June), where Minas Gerais’ Maranata Ouro won the top prize; the 3rd Festival do Queijo e Produtos Lácteos in Mato Grosso (3‑4 July) featured workshops and a competition emphasizing family‑farm producers. Parallel dairy activities continued in July with a field day in Bom Jesus do Sul (Paraná) on 8 July and the second Milk Summit Mercosul in Ijuí (Rio Grande do Sul) on 12 July. The Maraey tourism‑residential complex announced in late June as a R$4.5 billion first phase with three Marriott hotels, 392 residences and extensive infrastructure faced a legal setback. On 1 July a judge ordered a full suspension of construction and revoked environmental licences after indigenous groups, local fishermen and NGOs warned of irreversible damage to the restinga’s biodiversity and cultural sites. Appeals are pending. New details disclosed that the project, now projected to cost R$11 billion, would cover most of the 844‑hectare Maricá Environmental Protection Area and includes a hotel‑management school, tennis club, equestrian centre, golf course and an environmental reference centre.
