Maricá hosts 32‑performance dance festival to celebrate city anniversary

The fifth edition of Maricá em Dança took place over the weekend in the city centre, offering 32 performances at Praça Orlando de Barros Pimentel. The festival marked Maricá’s anniversary and featured tributes to composer Waldemar Henrique and pioneering ballerina Márcia Leite. Events included a concert by Trio Oré from the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Theatre and a closing dance party led by DJ Márcia Cardoso. Organisers said the programme aims to expand the role of dance in local cultural policy.

All shows were free to the public, with participation from dozens of local dance groups, solo artists and cultural collectives.
