Marijana Janković’s film ‘Dom’ shortlisted for Danish Oscar candidacy

Marijana Janković’s debut feature film, ‘Dom’ (Home), has been named one of three finalists for Denmark’s official submission for the 99th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category. The Danish Oscar Committee is expected to announce its final decision on September 25.

A Danish-Serbian co-production by Nordisk Film Production, the film is an intimate family drama inspired by the director’s personal experiences. It follows a six-year-old girl named Maja and her parents as they migrate from Yugoslavia to Denmark in search of a better life, leaving her two older brothers behind. The narrative explores themes of migration, belonging, and the challenges of cultural adaptation through a child’s perspective.

The film, which features dialogue in both Danish and Serbian, has already screened at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, the Sarajevo Film Festival, and the Herceg Novi Film Festival. It is scheduled for a local theatrical release on March 18.
