Marine conservation and restoration efforts underway in Turkey
Environmental conservation and restoration efforts are underway in various Turkish coastal regions to protect marine ecosystems. In Aydın, divers from the Metropolitan Municipality's Climate Change and Zero Waste Department, alongside the Fire Department, conducted sea floor cleaning near Güvercinada. The operation targeted ghost nets and marine debris to promote sustainable seas, supported by surface cleaning vehicles.
In Istanbul, Governor Davut Gül inspected marine protection and restoration activities around Tavşan Island. These efforts, part of the Zero Waste movement initiated in 2017, involve scientific research, active restoration, and technology-supported monitoring. The Governor emphasized that environmental protection must become a widespread culture and lifestyle to mitigate human-driven pollution.
