Marine Le Pen gains support following French civil unrest

Recent civil unrest and widespread looting across France have bolstered the political standing of far-right leader Marine Le Pen. Amidst protests involving the burning of public buildings and shops, Le Pen has positioned herself as a candidate of order and stability, criticizing the Emmanuel Macron administration for its perceived inability to maintain authority.

Polling data from Ifop-Fiducial indicates that Le Pen is projected to lead the first round of the 2027 presidential election with between 34% and 38% of the vote. In various runoff scenarios, she is projected to win decisively against all major opponents, including Jean-Luc Mélenchon, whom she could defeat with approximately 68% of the vote.

While Mélenchon is projected to qualify for the second round in most scenarios with 15% to 20% of the vote, other candidates such as Édouard Philippe and Raphaël Glucksmann face significant challenges in the current political climate. Analysts note that the erosion of trust in the state's ability to protect citizens is facilitating Le Pen's rise.
