Mario Adinolfi's defense appeals prison transfer over social media use

Mario Adinolfi, leader of the Popolo della Famiglia, has been transferred from house arrest to prison at Regina Coeli following allegations that he violated social media restrictions. His defense lawyers have filed an appeal with the Tribunal of Review, characterizing the transfer as a 'digital gag' (bavaglio digitale). They argue that the violation involved accessory measures—specifically the use of social media—rather than an attempt to evade electronic monitoring.

The transfer follows a Guardia di Finanza investigation which determined that Adinolfi used his devices to publish 49 blog articles and 23 Facebook posts, violating the terms of his house arrest.

Adinolfi faces serious charges including aggravated and continuous fraud, unauthorized collection of savings, financial abuse, and failure to declare income. These charges stem from an investigation into a betting group known as 'Scommessa Collettiva,' where clients were allegedly promised high returns through specialized algorithms. A preventive seizure of more than 400,000 euros has been ordered as part of the proceedings.
