Mario Martone’s ‘Trick’ premieres at Venice Film Festival

Mario Martone’s film ‘Trick’ has premiered in the Out of Competition section at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival. Adapted from a novel by Domenico Starnone, the film stars veteran Italian actor Toni Servillo.

The story follows Daniele, a septuagenarian book illustrator living in Milan, who returns to his family home in Naples to care for his five-year-old grandson, Mario. While attempting to work on illustrations for a new edition of Henry James’s ghost story, ‘The Jolly Corner’, Daniele struggles with creative stagnation and the heavy emotional weight of his past. The narrative explores his relationship with his grandson and the metaphorical ghosts residing within his childhood apartment.
