Mario Zamora criticizes lack of federal funding for Sinaloa projects
Federal Deputy Mario Zamora Gastélum has criticized the Mexican federal government for announcing major infrastructure projects for Sinaloa without allocating funds in the 2027 Expenditure Budget Project. During a meeting with the Undersecretary of Expenditures of the Treasury, Bertha Gómez Castro, Zamora highlighted that the ‘Tren Sinaloense’—a proposed 441-kilometer railway connecting Mazatlán, Culiacán, and Los Mochis—has received zero pesos despite being promoted by federal officials.
Zamora also raised concerns regarding agricultural support and road infrastructure. He called for specific budget allocations to assist corn and wheat producers in Sinaloa and noted that the Topolobampo–Chihuahua highway remains underfunded. Additionally, he pointed out a disparity in road maintenance, stating that while other states like Sonora receive concrete hydraulic paving, Sinaloa’s infrastructure efforts are largely limited to pothole repairs.
Furthermore, the deputy expressed disappointment over the rejection of a previous proposal to temporarily reduce the VAT from 16% to 8% in Sinaloa to support small businesses and families.
