Sinaloa federal budget allocation disputes

Overview

Federal Deputy Mario Zamora Gastélum has criticized the Mexican federal government regarding the 2027 Expenditure Budget Project, alleging a lack of funding for critical infrastructure in Sinaloa.

Zamora specifically highlighted that the ‘Tren Sinaloense’, a proposed 441-kilometer railway connecting Mazatlán, Culiacán, and Los Mochis, received zero pesos in the budget despite being promoted by federal officials. He also noted a lack of funding for the Topolobampo–Chihuahua highway and expressed concerns over insufficient support for corn and wheat producers, as well as inadequate road maintenance compared to other states.

In subsequent discussions with the Budget Commission, Zamora contrasted the lack of investment in Sinaloa with the 42 billion pesos allocated to the Nuevo Laredo-Saltillo railway project. He argued that the federal government is neglecting the state despite its significant economic and security challenges.
