Maritime drone explodes in Romania's Constanța port

On June 5, prosecutors in Constanța, Romania, expanded a criminal investigation after an unmanned gray vessel detonated in the port’s Fâna 78 area at around 10:30, following its detection at about 06:30.

The probe addresses serious offences – destruction with grave consequences and violations of weapons, ammunition and explosive‑material regulations – as investigators gather evidence on the incident.

Analysts have identified the craft as a Ukrainian‑made Sargan‑3000 maritime drone, one of six variants produced since April 2026. The drone, designed for surface combat and equipped with video surveillance and satellite‑communication gear, exploded after being spotted in the harbor.

Romanian prosecutors continue to examine the circumstances and any external involvement, seeking to determine the full chain of events.
