Maritime technology advances fuel efficiency and decarbonization
Brittany Ferries, Adrena, and Bureau Veritas have demonstrated fuel savings of up to 6% using an advanced digital twin-enabled routing solution. The AdrenaShip concept utilizes digital twins to improve the accuracy of routing recommendations and provide guidance on machinery operation. This technology has been validated through thousands of commercial voyages and is now deployed across nine vessels in the Brittany Ferries fleet, which operates between France, the United Kingdom, Guernsey, Ireland, and Spain.
In a separate maritime decarbonization initiative, Connected Places Catapult has selected six UK innovators for the Clean Transport Accelerator: Maritime programme. Funded by Innovate UK, the six-month programme supports technologies designed to reduce emissions from vessels, ports, and shipyards. The selected companies are developing solutions in areas such as vessel design, composite construction, port operations, carbon management, clean energy, and underwater inspection. Participants may receive up to £30,000 to conduct four-month trials.
