Maritime University of Gdynia launches second tender for new tall ship
The Maritime University of Gdynia has announced a second tender for the design and construction of a three-masted training tall ship. This new vessel is intended to replace the Dar Młodzieży, which was launched in 1981.
The initial tender process failed to attract any offers. Following market consultations with shipyard experts held in late July, the university adjusted the project documentation. Key changes include extending the investment realization timeline and the deadline for submitting bids, as the previous two-and-a-half-year construction window was deemed unrealistic due to high shipyard workloads.
The project follows a ‘design and build’ formula under an unlimited EU tender. Interested domestic and foreign contractors have until October 30 to submit offers. The new requirements also include minor construction adjustments to accommodate essential modern infrastructure such as a sewage treatment plant, power plant, air conditioning, a restaurant, and a small hospital.
