Gdynia Maritime University training ship procurement

Overview

The Maritime University of Gdynia has launched a new EU-wide ‘design and build’ tender for a three-masted training sailing ship to succeed the ‘Dar Młodzieży’. This follows a failed tender process in April that received no bids.

To improve the chances of success, the university conducted market consultations with shipyard experts in late July. Based on these discussions, the project documentation was adjusted to include an extended construction timeline, as the previous two-and-a-half-year window was considered unrealistic due to high shipyard workloads. The new vessel is expected to be approximately 112 meters long and will feature a hybrid propulsion system. Additionally, the requirements now include modern infrastructure such as a sewage treatment plant, air conditioning, and a small hospital. The deadline for submitting offers is October 30.
