Marketing measurement industry faces transparency and maturity crisis

Darren Woolley, chief executive of TrinityP3, warned that the marketing measurement sector is suffering from a transparency deficit, with undisclosed funding arrangements jeopardising the independence of advertising performance assessments. He noted that despite AI‑driven platforms such as Meta’s AI‑powered advertising lowering ad costs to five‑year lows, many advertisers are experiencing weaker conversion rates, raising doubts about how campaign success is measured.

In South Africa, Jaco Lintvelt of Incubeta highlighted a widening measurement maturity gap. While three‑quarters of brands still rely on basic platform metrics, more advanced teams are integrating attribution, media‑mix modelling and experimental data into a live growth‑intelligence layer. Rising paid‑search costs, fragmented audience attention and privacy‑driven signal loss are intensifying the need for robust, real‑time measurement to inform board‑level decisions and drive profitable growth.
