Markus Söder calls for energy reform as German government stabilizes

Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder stated that the German federal coalition is emerging from a period of stagnation and returning to a more productive working relationship. While expressing cautious optimism about the progress in Berlin, Söder noted that significant leaps with the SPD are currently difficult and advocated for a step-by-step approach.

Söder emphasized the necessity of a fuel discount as a quick and implementable measure to provide a signal to citizens, despite acknowledging its inherent inequities. However, he stressed that long-term solutions are required, specifically calling for a fundamental energy tax reform to address high costs for consumers and industry. He also highlighted the recent cabinet decision regarding long-term care insurance reform as a vital signal that the reform process is continuing.
