Mars launches adoption support hub following global study on pet adoption barriers

A global study conducted by Mars Incorporated reveals that uncertainties regarding animal health, behavior, and lifestyle compatibility act as significant barriers to pet adoption. According to the survey of 26,000 people across 14 countries, 58 percent of current pet owners did not adopt their animals. While nearly 30 percent of respondents expressed interest in adopting from a shelter, they cited concerns such as unknown medical histories (33 percent), behavioral patterns (27 percent), and whether the animal would fit their specific household (25 percent).

To address these concerns, Mars has launched the ‘Mars Adoption Hub,’ an online information platform designed to provide expert guidance and support for prospective adopters.

In Austria, Mars is collaborating with Tierschutz Austria to support cats and kittens at the Vösendorf shelter. This partnership includes the ‘Glückskatzenprojekt’ (Lucky Cat Project), supported by donations from the Whiskas brand. In Germany, Mars is initiating a pilot campaign in Hamburg featuring animals from the Süderstraße shelter to increase visibility and provide local support through in-store activations and donation drives.
