Mars pet adoption support initiatives
Overview
Following a global study of 26,000 people across 14 countries, Mars Incorporated identified several barriers to pet adoption. Key concerns cited by respondents include unknown medical histories, behavioral patterns, and lifestyle compatibility. In Canada, housing policies were specifically noted as a significant hurdle for 29 percent of participants.
To address these issues, Mars launched the ‘Mars Adoption Hub,’ an online platform providing expert guidance for prospective and current pet owners. The initiative aims to mitigate concerns regarding animal aggression and separation anxiety.
Regional efforts include collaborations in Austria with Tierschutz Austria to support the Vösendorf shelter and a pilot campaign in Hamburg, Germany, to increase visibility for animals from the Süderstraße shelter. The launch of the digital hub serves as a precursor to the 2026 Mars Global Adoption Weekend, which is expected to span more than 30 countries.
