Marta Kos: EU will only admit members that strengthen security
European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos stated that the European Union will prioritize integrating new member states that strengthen the bloc's security. Speaking at a meeting of EU foreign ministers, Kos emphasized that security and strategic alignment are becoming increasingly critical components of the enlargement process.
Kos noted that candidates must demonstrate alignment regarding sanctions, energy, and infrastructure to ensure that new members make the Union stronger rather than weaker. She also highlighted the necessity of respecting the rule of law and European values, particularly in the Western Balkans, where she observed a resurgence of nationalist tendencies.
