Marten de Roon transfers from Atalanta to AS Roma

Dutch midfielder Marten de Roon has completed a permanent transfer from Atalanta to AS Roma. The move, which was finalized within a 48-hour window, allows De Roon to reunite with his former coach, Gian Piero Gasperini.

De Roon, who will wear the number 15 shirt, joins Roma to provide leadership and tactical stability in the midfield for both domestic league play and the Champions League. His arrival is seen as a strategic technical choice by Gasperini to utilize De Roon’s familiarity with his tactical system.

The transfer marks the end of a decade-long tenure at Atalanta, where De Roon became a club icon with 445 appearances. In a farewell message to the city of Bergamo, he expressed deep gratitude to the fans and the club, stating, “Bergamo will always be my home.” The sudden departure has drawn mixed reactions, with some local figures describing the move to a rival club as a significant loss for the Atalanta community.
