Martínez-Bordiú Franco family to auction 700 items from Pazo de Meirás

Approximately 700 items belonging to the Martínez-Bordiú Franco family are scheduled for auction at Magna Art Auctions in Madrid on October 26 and 27. The collection, which includes paintings, furniture, ceramics, porcelain, glassware, and photographs related to Francisco Franco, was removed from the Pazo de Meirás when the property was transferred to the State.

The auction house director, José Miguel Carrillo de Albornoz, stated the sale follows the family's wishes and has the support of both the State Attorney's Office and the Xunta de Galicia, who distinguished these private goods from the property itself.

However, the Commission for the Recovery of Historical Memory (CRMH) in A Coruña has formally requested that government authorities intervene. The group has asked for inspections to determine if any of the items are actually public domain assets subject to legal protection, seeking to prevent their sale if they are deemed public property.
