Orthodox Church commemorates martyrs Adrian and Natalia
The Serbian Orthodox Church and its believers are observing the feast day of the holy martyrs Adrian and Natalia. The couple, originally from Nicomedia, are celebrated as protectors of marriage and family.
According to religious tradition, Adrian was a high-ranking official and non-believer who converted to Christianity after witnessing the steadfastness of persecuted believers under Emperor Maximian. His wife, Natalia, was a secret Christian who supported him through his imprisonment and eventual martyrdom. Following their deaths, they are honored for their devotion and faith.
Additionally, the day commemorates the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God. Tradition holds that this icon was painted by Luke the Evangelist and was famously moved to Moscow in 1395, where it was believed to have protected the people from the invasions of Tamerlane.
