On August 26, the tradition commemorates Saints Adrian and Natalia, a couple from Nicomedia during the reign of Emperor Maximian. Adrian, a Roman official and initially a non-believer, converted after witnessing the faith of 23 imprisoned believers. This led to his imprisonment and eventual execution, where his limbs were struck with hammers. His wife, Natalia, a secret Christian, supported him through his suffering and also died for her faith. Following the executions, Natalia and other women transported the bodies of the martyrs to Constantinople for burial. In addition to the martyrdom of Adrian and Natalia, the Serbian Orthodox Church and its believers observe the feast day of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God. Tradition holds that this icon was painted by Luke the Evangelist and was moved to Moscow in 1395, where it was believed to have protected the people from the invasions of Tamerlane. In Romania, Greece, Bulgaria, and Cyprus, these feast days serve as significant name days.
