Maruti Suzuki to hike select car prices by up to Rs 20,000

Maruti Suzuki India has announced a price increase of up to Rs 20,000 for selected car models, effective September 2026. This marks the company’s third price hike since May, following previous adjustments in June and August.

Unlike the earlier increases that applied to the entire passenger vehicle portfolio, this latest revision is targeted at specific models and variants. The automaker cited sustained increases in input costs, rising raw material prices—including steel and other metals—and elevated inflationary pressures as the primary drivers for the decision. The company stated it has attempted to absorb costs internally through various measures but is now constrained to pass a portion of the burden to the market.

The price hike arrives amid strong sales performance for the company; Maruti Suzuki reported selling over 2.19 lakh units in August 2026, a 21 percent increase compared to the previous year. Despite the announcement, the company’s shares showed resilience in the market. Other major automakers, including Tata Motors and Hyundai, have also implemented recent price increases due to similar economic pressures.
