Indian auto pricing, launches and EV export surge 2025‑26
Entities: e‑Vitara · Maruti Suzuki India Ltd
Overview
Maruti Suzuki continued its mixed‑strategy of modest across‑the‑range price hikes and deep cash discounts, propelling Fronx SUV sales past 5 lakh units and boosting May volumes 40 % YoY. The Victoris SUV crossed 100 k sales in nine months, prompting a price‑protection scheme for early‑booked entry‑level models and teasing a 7‑seat SUV and an electric MPV. Tata Motors lifted passenger‑vehicle ex‑showroom prices by up to 1.5 % from 1 July and later raised commercial‑vehicle rates by up to 2.5 %, while reporting 83 % renewable electricity use, a ₹3‑per‑share dividend, over 3,400 electric‑commercial‑vehicle orders and a ₹1,200 cr three‑year mobility‑as‑a‑service, African and Southeast Asian expansion plan that includes a Vietnam assembly plant. In early July Tata added a ₹35 000 cr Gujarat manufacturing complex and partnered with Welspun Renewable Energy on an 86 MW wind‑solar hybrid for its commercial‑vehicle factories. On 5 July Maruti trimmed the mild‑hybrid Victoris price by up to ₹39 k and launched July cash incentives of up to ₹90 k on the Victoris hybrid and similar offers across its portfolio. Kia India raised prices 2 % and Volkswagen introduced the Virtus GT sedan; Renault India added a lower‑priced Evolution+ Kiger variant. Mahindra & Mahindra raised SUV and commercial‑vehicle prices by up to 2.7 % and 2 % respectively. In mid‑July 2026 Tata Motors announced further price revisions, increasing the three‑row Safari SUV by Rs 10‑13 k and the Altroz hatchback by up to Rs 13 k, with no new features. Renault India launched the Duster Adventure Edition, a cosmetic‑focused trim priced from Rs 12.99 lakh, offering adventure‑themed exterior decals, sunroof and upgraded interior equipment while retaining existing powertrains. Mahindra reduced the Australian price of its XUV700 AX7L by $5,000, making it the cheapest new seven‑seat SUV in that market, with the discount valid through September 2026.
