Star Wars: Starfighter footage and Marvel crossover revealed
Disney and Lucasfilm have unveiled new details and first footage for the upcoming film ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ at the D23 fan event. Directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling, the film is a standalone adventure set in a new era of the franchise, approximately five years after the events of ‘The Rise of Skywalker’.
Gosling portrays Kade Auberon, a pilot whose fate is linked to a decommissioned, high-speed starfighter. The footage showcased various landscapes, including a sea-filled planet with massive geysers, and featured a supporting cast including Amy Adams, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, and Aaron Pierre. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on May 28, 2027, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the original Star Wars release.
In addition to the film news, Lucasfilm and Marvel Comics announced a collaborative five-issue limited comic book series titled ‘Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles’. Written by Kevin Smith and illustrated by David Marquez, the crossover will feature characters such as the Avengers, Spider-Man, Luke Skywalker, and Darth Vader. The comic series is expected to debut in late January 2027.
