Masam Project clears thousands of mines and munitions in Yemen

The Masam Project, an initiative of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, has significantly advanced landmine clearance operations across Yemen. During the third week of August 2026, teams removed 1,836 items, including 1,792 pieces of unexploded ordnance, 25 anti-tank mines, 13 anti-personnel mines, and 6 explosive devices.

Since the beginning of August through August 21, the project has cleared a total of 9,280 mines and unexploded munitions, covering over 1,002,229 square meters of land. These efforts are distributed across several Yemeni governorates, including Aden, Al Dhale, Hadramaut, Hajjah, Marib, Shabwah, and Taiz.

In the Midi district of Hajjah governorate, the project has cleared 4,596,730 square meters of land and removed 12,854 items since operations began in that area. Since its inception, the Masam Project has successfully removed a cumulative total of 648,386 mines and unexploded munitions to improve civilian safety and facilitate the return of residents to affected areas.
