Yemen Masam demining project operations

The Masam demining project, an initiative of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, continues to conduct large-scale landmine and unexploded ordnance clearance operations across Yemen to improve civilian safety.

In July 2026, the project reported removing 5,653 items, including anti-tank and anti-personnel mines, covering over 1.3 million square meters of land. Despite these efforts, civilian casualties persist; in the Al-Bayda governorate, a landmine planted by Houthi forces killed two children and wounded a third.

By late August 2026, the project reported significant progress, having cleared 9,280 mines and munitions between the start of the month and August 21. These operations have spanned several governorates, including Aden, Al Dhale, Hadramaut, Hajjah, Marib, Shabwah, and Taiz. In the Midi district of Hajjah alone, the project has removed 12,854 items since operations began. Since its inception, the Masam Project has removed a cumulative total of over 648,000 mines and unexploded munitions.
