Masam Project removes thousands of mines and explosives in Yemen

The Masam Project for landmine clearance in Yemen has reported significant progress in removing explosive remnants of war. Between September 1 and September 18, project teams removed 3,887 mines, unexploded munitions, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). This includes 3,252 unexploded munitions, 573 anti-tank mines, 51 anti-personnel mines, and 11 IEDs. During this period, teams also cleared 611,285 square meters of land.

Since its inception in June 2018, the project has cleared a cumulative total of 85,614,461 square meters of land and removed 592,212 explosive items. In the Midi district alone, the project has cleared over 4.8 million square meters and removed more than 13,217 explosive items.

In addition to clearance operations, the project is conducting awareness campaigns. In Marib, the Masam media team held an educational session at Omar Al-Mukhtar School in the Al-Jufaina displaced persons camp. The campaign aimed to teach students how to identify and safely handle unexploded ordnance and mines. As part of this initiative, the project distributed 400 fully equipped school bags to students to support their education alongside the safety training.
