Maserati negotiates alliance with Huawei and JAC Group
Maserati is reportedly negotiating a strategic industrial alliance with Huawei and JAC Group to develop new electric vehicle models. The partnership aims to utilize Chinese technology and platforms to reduce development costs and accelerate product launches for Stellantis.
The collaboration would involve a division of expertise: Huawei would provide the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) platform, including intelligent cockpits and autonomous driving systems; JAC Group would contribute manufacturing and engineering through its Maextro facilities; and Maserati would oversee the design of the vehicles.
The project reportedly focuses on two new electric models: a mid-to-large size SUV and a large Grand Tourer. A dual-branding strategy is planned, where the vehicles would be sold under the Maserati brand in Europe, North America, and other international markets, but marketed under the Maextro luxury brand within China.
This move comes as Maserati seeks to improve its financial performance and production volumes at its Italian plants in Cassino and Modena. The company reported adjusted operating losses of 198 million euros and sold fewer than 8,000 vehicles globally in 2025.
