Stellantis global expansion and strategic partnerships

Overview

Stellantis is pursuing several strategic expansions and partnerships to strengthen its global presence and technological capabilities.

In August 2026, the company established an 8.2 billion yuan ($1.2 billion) joint venture with Dongfeng in Wuhan, China. Named Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroen Automotive Technology Co., this partnership intends to utilize Chinese electric vehicle technology to manufacture and export electrified Jeep and Peugeot models to international markets beginning in 2027. Simultaneously, Stellantis expanded its retail footprint in South Korea by opening a new Brand House in Seoul to co-locate Jeep and Peugeot brands.

By September 2026, reports emerged regarding advanced negotiations between Stellantis, Huawei, and the JAC Group to establish a long-term industrial partnership for Maserati. This collaboration aims to integrate Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility digital architecture into future models to accelerate the brand’s transition to connected and electric vehicles. The proposed strategy involves a dual-branding approach where vehicles are sold under JAC’s Maextro brand in China while retaining the Maserati emblem for international markets.

This move is viewed as a potential response to Maserati’s recent financial challenges, including an adjusted operating loss of 198 million euros and a period where the brand delivered fewer than 8,000 vehicles. The agreement is expected to support production volumes at Maserati’s Italian plants in Modena and Cassino to help safeguard local employment. If finalized, the parties aim to begin production of the first jointly developed model by late 2026 or 2027. While Stellantis has declined to comment on market rumors, the company is expected to officially unveil Maserati’s long-term strategic plan during an investor day in Modena, Italy, this December.
