Maserati plans luxury sedan comeback and possible V8 under Stellantis
Maserati executives said the brand is studying a return to the luxury limousine segment with a new model slated for 2027. The planned vehicle may use the Nettuno 3.0‑liter turbo V6 that produces 582 hp, while a V8 power‑train and a manual gearbox are also being evaluated for future high‑end customers. Maserati is favoring mild‑hybrid 48‑volt systems over full plug‑in hybrids, arguing that the added weight and complexity would not suit many buyers.
Stellantis chief Antonio Filosa positioned Maserati as a cornerstone of the group’s global strategy, emphasizing its role as an Italian icon of style and elegance. The brand is expected to focus more on the luxury market, with potential collaborations with Chinese manufacturers such as BYD and Dongfeng. Maserati’s sales have fallen sharply, from a peak of about 46‑49 000 units in 2017 to roughly 7 900 in 2025, an over 80% decline.
