Maserati refresh, GT4 debut, and V8 reintroduction plans
Overview
Maserati’s mid-cycle refresh, launched in June 2026, updated the GranTurismo, GranCabrio, and Grecale with a “shark-nose” front design, new wheels, and an octagonal sport steering wheel. Power ranges from 390 hp in the base Grecale to 590 hp in the GranTurismo Trofeo, powered by the 3.0-L twin-turbo Nettuno V6. Electric Folgore variants offer WLTP ranges of approximately 540–580 km. Prices start at €79,900 for the Grecale mild-hybrid and reach €213,800 for the GranCabrio Folgore, with deliveries planned for September 2026.
At the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2026, Maserati unveiled Project GT4, a track-focused evolution of the GranTurismo. Developed by Maserati Corse, the car features a 3.0-L Nettuno V6 with Formula 1-derived technology, producing over 700 hp. It is roughly 400 kg lighter than the road model and utilizes a chassis derived from the GT2 and MCXtrema. Maserati aims for a 2028 entry into GT4 competition.
Strategic developments include the study of a luxury sedan for 2027, potentially using a 582-hp Nettuno V6 or a 48-V mild-hybrid system. Engineering head Davide Danesin has confirmed research into reintroducing V8 engines for high-cost, limited-edition “emotional machines” like the GranTurismo or GranCabrio. These models are expected to be positioned as expensive collector items due to development costs and high emission penalties in markets like Europe. This shift aligns with Stellantis’ “freedom of power choice” philosophy. Additionally, as part of the Stellantis FaST Lane 2030 plan, the brand is working to strengthen its luxury market position, including the development of two new segment E models, with a detailed roadmap expected in Modena by December 2026. Maserati is also exploring strategic partnerships with Chinese firms to share technology and reduce costs following a decline in sales volume.
