Maserati partners with Huawei and JAC Motors for new electric models
Maserati is reportedly finalizing a strategic partnership with Chinese technology giant Huawei and automaker JAC Motors to develop two new electric vehicle models. The collaboration aims to address the brand's current sales challenges and accelerate its transition to electric mobility.
The project focuses on two specific models: a large electric Grand Tourer (GT) and a mid-to-large size electric SUV. These vehicles are intended to complement existing models like the GranTurismo Folgore and Grecale Folgore. Under the agreement, Huawei will provide the technological foundation, including the electric powertrain, digital cockpit, and the Qiankun intelligent driving system via the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) platform. JAC Motors will handle technical development and manufacturing at facilities currently used for Maextro models.
To maintain brand prestige while managing costs, the vehicles may follow a dual-branding strategy. In the Chinese market, they are expected to be marketed under the Maextro brand, while international markets will utilize the Maserati name. While technical development and certain production stages will occur in China, Maserati will retain responsibility for design, final assembly in Italy, and global sales distribution.
