Iran President Pezeshkian cites most difficult period in 48 years

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has characterized the current state of the country as its most difficult period in 48 years, citing intense economic, social, and political pressures since the 1979 Revolution.

Addressing the nation's energy challenges, Pezeshkian noted that the government is facing significant limitations in fuel imports. He stated that while the country ideally needs to purchase $12 billion in gasoline, it has only been able to procure approximately $2 billion to $3 billion. He emphasized that even if sufficient funds were available, the government would prioritize paying employee salaries and addressing domestic imbalances over gasoline imports.

To manage these shortages, the administration has implemented measures to control the consumption of electricity, gasoline, and diesel. Pezeshkian also called on citizens to reduce domestic gas usage to ensure enough supply remains for the industrial sector.

On the political front, the President emphasized the necessity of national unity and social cohesion. He argued that external attempts to destabilize the country by targeting leadership and officials have failed, asserting that the Iranian people have strengthened their solidarity rather than fracturing under pressure.
