Mass Gaza Funeral for 112 Victims and Lebanon's Legal Push on Israeli War Crimes

Palestinians in Gaza held a large funeral on August 4, 2026 for 112 members of the Al‑Hasayneh and Abu Sharia families whose bodies were recovered from the rubble of homes destroyed in an Israeli strike in November 2023. The ceremony in Gaza City’s Sabra neighbourhood drew thousands, with the deceased—including 40 children, 38 women and seven people with disabilities—laid out under Palestinian flags before burial at the Baptist Cemetery in Zeitoun.

Meanwhile, Lebanon’s government outlined legal avenues to pursue alleged Israeli war crimes, emphasizing that Lebanese citizens can bring cases before European courts and that the state could accept the International Criminal Court’s jurisdiction for a limited period. Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri said documentation efforts by the National Committee for International Humanitarian Law and the UN Human Rights Office are being prepared for submission to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, ahead of a seventh round of US‑mediated talks in Rome.
