Massive rocket attack hits Kyiv, injuring five and cutting power to 140,000

A large-scale rocket barrage struck Kyiv early Monday, with Ukrainian officials reporting intercepted projectiles and fragments falling over the city. Mayor Vitali Klychko said the attacks damaged buildings in the Podil and Obolon districts, and military administrator Timur Tkachenko confirmed five people were wounded, including one in serious condition.

The strikes knocked out electricity for roughly 140,000 residents, set a high‑rise residential block ablaze, and caused a direct hit on the historic Lavra Pechersk monastery, which caught fire. Similar rocket attacks were also reported in Kharkiv. The incident occurred amid ongoing diplomatic exchanges, including recent talks between the United States and Iran on broader Middle‑East tensions.
