Mastercard Raises Spending Threshold for Free Access to VIP Lounges at São Paulo’s Guarulhos Airport

Mastercard has introduced a new policy for its Mastercard Black cards that requires holders to spend at least R$15,000 each quarter – roughly R$5,000 per month – to keep free entry to the Mastercard Black Lounge and the Mastercard Airport Proprietary VIP Lounge located in Terminal 3 of São Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport. The spending target applies to the primary card and any additional cards linked to the same account.

The change targets all Brazilian issuers of Mastercard Black cards, including banks such as BTG Pactual, Bradesco, C6 Bank, Porto, PicPay, Genial Investimentos, RecargaPay, Uniprime and Sisprime. Cards issued less than six months ago are exempt from the threshold. Mastercard says the rule is intended to curb chronic overcrowding in its lounges, especially during peak international‑flight periods, and to prioritise customers with higher usage of the card.

Customers who do not meet the spend requirement may be denied free lounge access at the time of travel, while other lounge access arrangements remain unchanged.
