Brazil premium‑card market adds travel perks, raises fees
Entities: Hugo Reis · Mastercard · rating bancário · Premium credit cards · Brazilian banks
Overview
In July 2026 BTG Pactual launched the Ultra Blue card, offering unlimited DragonPass lounge access from 16 July and requiring a R$1 million spend. The bank also announced a forthcoming World Legend Mastercard for ultra‑high‑net‑worth clients, delivering up to 4.5 points per US$ 1, a 2 % cash‑back option, IOF exemption on overseas purchases and a US$1 million travel‑insurance package for the holder plus dependents, together with Fast‑Track airport services.
A Datafolha survey released the same month showed 77 % of Brazilian credit‑card users now pay with cards at supermarkets, with strong usage in pharmacies (57 %) and gas stations (33 %). Cards dominate everyday spending across garments, electronics and tourism categories.
Later in July BTG Pactual confirmed that, from 24 July, its Mastercard VIP lounge benefit would migrate from LoungeKey to the DragonPass platform, creating a unified app‑based system covering more than 1,400 lounges while preserving the four free annual accesses. A transition period allows use of both platforms, with QR‑code entry via the bank’s app.
In parallel, Brazilian banks introduced a confidential "bank rating" system to tighten access to premium cards and airport lounges. Annual fees on high‑income cards rose from around R$1,800 to R$4,000, while ultra‑high‑income cards now cost over R$25,000 and promise additional perks such as helicopter transfers and luxury‑hotel experiences. BTG Pactual’s Mastercard revisions are part of this broader shift.
