Refinaria de Mataripe reduces gasoline prices by 11.3%

The Refinaria de Mataripe, Brazil’s second-largest refinery, has announced an 11.3% reduction in the price of gasoline A. The price for distributors has dropped from R$ 3.93 to R$ 3.49 per liter.

This price adjustment incorporates a R$ 0.44 per liter subsidy established by the Brazilian federal government under Provisional Measure (MP) 1.358. The measure was designed to mitigate rising fuel costs linked to the conflict involving Iran.

Located in São Francisco do Conde, the refinery is a critical infrastructure asset, accounting for 14% of Brazil’s total refining capacity and 80% of the supply in the state of Bahia. It also provides 42% of the fuel supply for the Northeast region.

The facility is owned by Acelen, an entity controlled by the United Arab Emirates-based investment fund Mubadala Capital. It remains the only refinery among the country's ten largest that is not owned by Petrobras, though the state-owned company has expressed interest in reacquiring the unit.
