Matatena International Children's Film Festival begins in Mexico
The 31st Matatena International Film Festival for Children (...and not-so-children) has launched in Mexico City and the State of Mexico. Running from August 8 to August 23, 2026, the festival features 64 screenings across 14 venues, including the Cineteca Nacional, Cineteca Nacional de las Artes, and Cineteca Chapultepec.
Organized by the civil association La Matatena with support from PROCINECDMX, this edition showcases 73 productions from 26 countries, including Germany, Austria, Canada, Norway, Chile, and Denmark. The program includes nine feature films, three documentaries, and 61 short films spanning fiction and animation.
To ensure accessibility, the festival provides live translation and dubbing during screenings. Beyond film viewings, the event includes interactive elements such as masterclasses with international guests and a children's jury, allowing young audiences to participate actively in the cinematic experience.
