Matcha expands from traditional tea into cocktails, skincare, and specialty cafes

Matcha is expanding beyond its traditional role in tea and coffee into diverse lifestyle sectors, including mixology, skincare, and specialized culinary trends.

In the beverage industry, new products like YOSHI Matcha Liqueur are introducing the ingredient to cocktail culture, offering an earthy alternative to traditional fruit or floral liqueurs. Additionally, the ‘dirty matcha’—a combination of matcha, espresso, and coconut milk—has emerged as a popular home-made drink trend.

In Hyderabad, India, a dedicated matcha movement is growing with the opening of specialty shops such as Sura Matcha, Altr Ego Cafe, and Latcha. These establishments offer everything from ceremonial pours to modern variations like strawberry matcha.

The trend also extends to the beauty industry, where matcha is being utilized in skincare products like cleansers and serums due to its antioxidant properties and ability to soothe skin redness.
