Matchbook acquires betting exchange Betdaq

Matchbook, a peer-to-peer betting exchange and market technology company, has completed the acquisition of rival operator Betdaq. The takeover is intended to increase market liquidity, providing customers with tighter spreads, improved pricing, and the ability to match larger bets.

Betdaq, founded by Dermot Desmond in 2000, is one of the industry’s longest-running exchanges. The existing Betdaq service, operated by EPS Ltd, will remain open for trading until October 21, 2026, to facilitate an orderly transition. Customer accounts will remain open for withdrawals until November 4, 2026. Matchbook stated that customer funds will remain protected throughout the process in accordance with regulatory obligations.

Matchbook CEO Ronan McDonagh noted that the acquisition aligns with the growing global momentum of exchange betting and prediction markets. Matchbook has recently expanded its reach through partnerships such as EasyBet and its entry into prediction markets via ADI PredictStreet.
