Matera geriatric unit gains two doctors as Sardinian towns face GP shortages

The unit’s director highlighted the addition as a strategic investment to improve diagnostic and therapeutic pathways for frail seniors.

In the Sardinian town of Guspini, residents are coping with a severe shortage of family doctors after the closure of a local practice. With only three physicians serving roughly 13,000 people, many patients, especially seniors, face long waits for prescriptions and appointments, prompting criticism of the Asap service that manages urgent care requests.
