Maternal healthcare facilities expanded in Sierra Leone and India

In Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Health and the organization Solthis have partnered to enhance maternal and newborn survival at Kingharman Maternal and Children’s Hospital. Through a donation of advanced neonatal tools and a newly equipped maternity room, the initiative supports the national “300 Days of Activism for Maternal, Newborn and Child Survival” campaign. Ibrahim Foday-Musa, Director of Hospital and Ambulance Services, emphasized that public-private partnerships are vital for bridging infrastructure gaps and improving service delivery for pregnant women and children.

In Dhule, India, a new maternity hospital is nearing completion in the Mill area. The facility, built at a cost of approximately 3.5 crore rupees, is expected to be inaugurated in the new year. The hospital will feature 12 beds and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), providing 24-hour service from specialist doctors and staff. The project aims to provide affordable healthcare to an estimated 60,000 to 70,000 local residents, reducing the need for women to travel to distant medical colleges or district hospitals.
