Sierra Leone and India healthcare cooperation

Overview

Efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and medical capacity have been highlighted through cooperation between Sierra Leone and India. Initially, a Sierra Leonean health delegation visited Chandigarh, India, to evaluate hospital equipment manufacturing and quality-control processes. This mission aimed to improve the management and sustainability of biomedical engineering and diagnostic equipment in Sierra Leone’s public health facilities.

Subsequent developments focused on maternal and neonatal care. In Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Health partnered with the organization Solthis to equip Kingharman Maternal and Children’s Hospital with advanced neonatal tools and a new maternity room. Concurrently, in Dhule, India, a new maternity hospital featuring a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is nearing completion to provide affordable local services to residents.
