Mateusz Morawiecki announces Rozwój Plus will run independently in elections
Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has announced that his political movement, Rozwój Plus, will run independently in next year’s elections. In a statement on X, Morawiecki described the movement as a way to change Poland and emphasized that a political party is merely a “tool, not an end in itself.”
While Morawiecki previously suggested the formal establishment of a political party by mid-October, reports indicate this transition from an association to a formal party will be delayed by several months. Supporters noted that the association format currently allows for broader cooperation and public engagement.
The emergence of Rozwój Plus follows a significant split within the Law and Justice (PiS) party. The rift occurred after PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński issued an ultimatum requiring MPs to resign from external political associations. Approximately 40 politicians, including prominent figures like Michał Dworczyk, chose not to comply and subsequently formed their own parliamentary club.
Morawiecki also differentiated his movement’s economic platform from PiS, advocating for free-market mechanisms and private sector growth over state-led interventionism. He criticized the fiscal approach of his former colleagues, calling for more disciplined management of public finances.
